the tt spider?
the latest autocar has an article reporting claims from their german sister
magazine that the ttq (225hp) has a perchant for lift off oversteer. of the
911-type variety. the blame attributed in the article is to the
aerodynamics producing too much lift and the haldex too much rearwards
torque. the article points out that the same affliction does not affect the
a3q and the s3. it also reports audi's plans for a rear pop-up spoiler for
the car, and reports audi denying that there is any difficulty.
speaking of the ttq, in a world exclusive, the nz autocar publication
reports on the mtm offerings for the ttq. outrageous is not the word. not
even close. if it weren't for the photos and the fact that mark petch is no
bullshitter, i wouldn't believe it. petch is a well-knwon nz saloon car
racer, who's now a journalist/editor.
anyway, how does a a 1.8 litre 242kw (328hp) ttq sound. not enough?
then try the 2 litre version with 300kw (thats 407hp)! still not enough?
then try the 2-engined (!) car good for 485kw (yes, thats 650hp)!!
the article is complete with photos of the test mules, rather (ahem)
interesting styling with a completely modified front and rear (mark petch
confirms that the standard car needs improved high-speed stability with this
sort of power). the areo kit includes barge boards, massive front air damn,
very much extended wheel arches and a very large rear spoiler. the rear end
works better than the front imho.
if i get time, i'll scan some of the photos if anyone is interested. if
someone has a web site they want to show the photos on, drop me a line.
