90' 90 Oil Pressure Light

Hi All,

I tried to send this earlier but haven't seen it in my inbox so maybe it
never got there.

I have a non-quatro 1990 90. The oil pressure idiot light comes on when
ever the tach is above 2800 rpm. The gauge on the other hand reads normal
through all engine speeds (ranging from about 1.5 to 4.5 bar depending on
eng. speed and oil temp).

I replaced the "white" oil pressure switch which started spraying out oil
shortly after the light started coming on. The dealer tells me there are
two pressure switches plus the gauge sending unit, and the auto parts
store sold me 2 and brown one and a white one.

I've looked every where and I can't find the brown one on the car or any
color single wire sensors screwed into the block other than the oil temp
sending unit (i'm sure that is what it is, I checked)

I've also changed the oil and filter making sure the level is correct
thinking it might have been over filled, or the filter might have been
plugged causing high pressure.

The light still comes on, just like the upshift light in my GTI only this
is much more annoying, because the little bell sounds too.

Has anyone seen this before?

Where does the damn brown switch go besides back to the store?

How do I make the light go away? Or should I believe the light and not the
gauge?

Thanks for any help
