Never forget the basics ...

Galvin got me this morning. The 200TQ (1B engine) has not been performing
well of late - reluctant to go above 4500rpm, etc.

He's been pointing the digit at the inlet air temperature sender. We
resoldered it yesterday, but I didn't have my diode light with me so
we couldn't pull the codes.

He brought the car over this morning, complaining that it was still
wrong and: "It must be fuel pressure".

I jury-rigged the diode light into the top of the fuel pump relay and
dumped the codes - sure enough - 'inlet air temperature'. So I crimped,
soldered and heat-shrunk. Fixed it - got '4444'. Just as bad.

Checked fuel pressures - system = 5.85 bar (OK), control = 5.2 (Ooops!)

(Isn't the 200TQ a _SOD_ to get a fuel gauge onto?)

Switched to a spare control pressure regulator (3.4) and wound the CO
adjustment screw back over five (5!) full turns to get everything
back in balance. Still iffy. Performing as badly as before. Storing
'4444'.

Silly boy. Everyone say after me: "When faced with an erratic turbo I5,
CHECK THE BLOODY HOSES _FIRST_!!"

The Michelin man hose (intercooler to throttle body) had a rip in it
big enough for three fingers. Good news - Audi's old price (GBP130)
is now GBP44.
