Why has the accelerator pedal cover fallen off on my 89 100?
It appears that it should snap back into place, but it won't stay.
The design of this pedal is quite different from the earlier cars, 87 5k
for example.
The newer type pedal is a hinged affair with a spring under the cover which
the foot rests on.

My guess is either something broke or else I've lost a piece, but I can't
see anything obvious.

This may sound trivial but it's definitely annoying.
Bentley is no help at all.

Similar thing happened to mine; was perhaps more obvious that something
"broke" on mine. Fix: get a small drill bit, and a large (heavy gauge)
paper clip. Drill a hole through both sides of the cover, and through the
bottom of the pedal, and fish the straightened paper clip through. Bend the
paper clip on both sides towards and around the back of the pedal, and it
will work as the hinge to keep the cover in place (60k miles on mine, so
far). The spring built in to the pedal will keep the cover bending up/down
as it did originally.
So, 1 cent in materials and 10 minutes, or, buy the new pedal assembly and
have it installed; or better yet, purchase some adjustable pedal covers and a
dead pedal (no btdt, sorry).
