oil coolers

just looking for some dialogue here...

I have a couple fo slightly different oil coolers collected, and the
hose/thermostat/filter bracket off an 87 5k. Wanna put the system on my
coupe since this time of year I see those 130-150 deg C oil temps again
:-).

1. I am nervous about drilling two "locating" holes in my block to put
pins into to fit the bracket. How important do we think those are?

2. Since the unit is (presumably) thermostatic, I guess this means
unless the oil is changed over 110 deg C (or whatever, but above the
thermo setting) that the oil in the cooler will not be changed. Any
thoughts? Worth installing valves to get complete oil change? Is my
reasoning wrong to start with?

I plan on getting some new hoses made with the ends I have, and mounting
the cooler somehow in the "used to be" AC compressor bracket. have some
"bug concentrating" ductwork from the 5k if necessary to get air to it.

Thanks!
