Monkey lads (tm) attacked my TQW stereo!!!
Folks:
I finally reached the point in repairs/fixes on the TQW that
I'm ready to tackle replacing the !!!Emerson!!! removable
faceplate stereo that the previous owner had installed.
The head unit must have cost all of $50 installed. The quality of
the installation itself bears witness to this fact.
Reception is a joke- and I'm talking about a car with the Fuba
roof-mounted antenna. I pulled out the head unit and found the
following: the audi factory harness ends had been butchered - cut
right off, and cheesy splices were made with the head unit. The
antenna lead end was also gone- it was spliced (and that term
does not describe the sloppiness) to the radio's head unit lead.
They just pulled off some of the gound braid, spliced that with
the head unit lead in a crimp connection, and did the same for
the center conductor.
They also never bothered to connect the left front speaker!
I also found that the cellular monkey lad (tm) used a
scotchlite ? connector to splice into one of the rear
defroster leads for power- needless to say I removed that connection
and covered the wire insulation with some electrical tape.
Have any fellow listers had to repair the antenna wire
leads? Is anyone familiar with the Wagon stereo/antenna setup?
The TQW windshield has the antenna built in, but also the roof
antenna, and Bentley is silent on the TQW setup.
I can confirm that the TQW did not come with the Bose stereo.
TIA!
