Subject: 6 speed gearbox info needed please
My Audi contact just contacted me concerning 6 speed gearboxes (S2 or
RS2 I would guess). If anyone has the european codes for the different
trannies, it would be appreciated. I think we'll have 3 ro 4 to sell,
sounds like they will be in the $1800-2000 range. He also mentioned
several 20V turbo motors as well. I think they are 95 & up if that
helps. Thanks a lot.

Subject: RE: Any BTDT with the _factory_ 6-speed?
the rs2/s2 6-speed has a dogleg rev, then an h pattern 1-6, with a strong
spring to the 3-4 plane.
however, you should remember that there are a number of different audi
6-speed boxes. two revisions had different ratios, for the a6 (diesel)
and
also the s6, while the s2/rs2 and s6+ had the same ratios, and the same
gears and bearings. there are also differences with the casings between
the
various models. hence the transmissions themselves have different part
numbers.
rs2 01e 300 043p
s2 01e 300 044k
s6 01e 300 042n
s6+ 01e 300 044p
also, despite the post which stated that the ratios are the same, they
most
definitely are not with the s6 box (which blau is trying to sell - i wish
they would get the part number right anyway). the s6 tranny is the most
different, with a range of ratios available with 1st (3.5, 3.55), 2nd
(1.84,
1.86, 2.11), 3rd (1.23, 1.32), 4th (1.07, 1.03), 5th (0.730, 0.757, 0.806,
0.857) and 6th (0.684, 0.730). the driveshaft also has the choice of 2
ratios, 1.14 and 1.10.
the ratios in the s2/rs2 and s6+ tranny are the same with 1st 3.50, 2nd
1.89, 3rd 1.32, 4th 1.03, 5th 0.857 and 6th 0.711, and the driveshaft
1.10.
so, it seems to me, that it would be possible to build a "short ratio"
box,
using the appropriate gear clusters from the s6 box in your eratsz s2.
also, it would mean that you'd want to do a little more examination before
buying that blau box.
