Quick help...1.8t engine interfering?!?
Gang, I need some real quick help. My father may have broken the
timing belt on his A4 1.8tq. He has 64K miles on the car right
now, and the car is at the dealership. They want to install a new
belt and then see if the engine runs. I have a couple of questions:
(1) Does anyone know if the 1.8t is interfering? He did not
notice any self-destruct behavior when the timing belt broke,
nor when he tried to restart the car and the crank just spun.
I assume that piston crunching a valve would be fairly
noticeable, but I have no direct experience in that regard (thank
goodness).
(2) Can he tow the car with all four wheels on the ground? He
needs to get it to a friend's house (he is 300 miles from home,
but the friend is about 20 miles away) somehow without paying another
$100 towing bill.
Thanks,
Eric
