83 coupe GT. smoke screen

My beloved coupe is blowing black smoke and oil through the exhaust. The
engine is running smoothly and it is not overheating. I pulled the air
filter and it was soaked with oil.
The compression seems good. So my question is, where is the oil coming
from and why ? Any ideas would be very helpful .thanks
