Head Light sensor on Digital Dashes

Hi gang,

I have a little problem with the light sensor on the left side of the
instrument cluster.  The green "turn on your headlights" symbol keeps
lighting up in the bright sunshine, so I suspect the sensor's not working.

Is this sensor a photo diode or light sensitive resistor?  The Bentley is
indicating by symbol that it is a diode.  Thought I'd ask if any one has
any experience repairing this.
