Hydraulic Pump - BTDT?

I've rebuilt my hydraulic pump (034 145 165 - square black design, as
fitted to MB/RR ur-quattros and the later Coupe quattro) using kit
035 198 049A.

(This was a while back - thanks for the help received then)

I mounted the pump yesterday and ran the engine for about ten minutes.
The bomb didn't pressurise.  Everything else works fine - steering fluid
goes round, and the pump doesn't leak.  It just seems that the front part
of the pump (two tiny pistons working off the cam on the shaft) either
isn't working at all or takes a lot longer to self-bleed than I thought.

BDTD, anyone?  How long does a drained brake system take to refill?  I
primed everything, so the pump was actually full of G 002 000 when it
started, but the line to the brake accumulator was pretty empty.
