Steering Rack - Attack!!!!
Gang -
Have this little problem with my '89 200TQ.
Started using mass quantities of hydraulic fluid,
well enough to set off the idiot light after
about 5 days of driving after topping off the
reservior.
It's had 3 hydraulic pumps, 2 bombs, fluid flush
and whatever else over the 118K life of it.
Took it into the dealer... the say it looks like
the steering rack is leaking a lot through the
O-rings. Price for a rebuilt rack $780 and $480
to install plus fluid, taxes... Aieeeeeeee!!!!!!
Is there anything else I can do/check before
going this route. The dealer said if I don't mind
topping it off, I can keep driving it as is...
but once a week or more doesn't seem like a
practical way to go. I don't have the time to do
a major project like this myself, so it's got to
be done by a pro.
I saw someone post a good price on a rack for an
older Q, anything available for an '89 200TQ? I
have a shop that could do the install with my
parts, or the dealer might too.
TIA
- Jim
