Just a minor data point, by the time I unloaded my 83 5kt, the wastegate
was "stuck open".  Nice low compression normally aspirated sled it was,
too.  It had spent some time "stuck shut" previously, which was just as
big of a pita, couldn't give it any gas or the boost would peg out.
