... and this sort of post may be what causes lister(s) to go away, not
necessarily the action that was being discussed or it's inevitable
conclusion ... and I'm not necessarily referring to IVIarty [cute BTW]
either.

What is up with this list lately anyway? While I doubt that I would ever do
such a thing, nor would I suggest that someone else do likewise ... from my
reading the poster seemed to be taking appropriate precautions to minimize
the danger their actions would pose to the rest of society.

One of the things that one learns when riding a motorcycle (or perhaps
_should_ learn) is that you are exposed to some level of risk even when you
are sitting still; and that one of the jobs you should be doing whenever
riding is to constantly evaluate the risks and to adjust your situation to
establish an acceptable risk level. Each person is allowed to choose the
amount of risk they will allow, and everyone needs to be aware of the
consequences of operating at a high risk too often. I find that I use those
same practices while driving.

Why must we have the fire and brimstone every time someone even proposes
doing something like this? Are we all perfect followers of the driving laws
set forth by our respective governments? Who's to think the person posting
is going to give a hoot about what you think of their actions, or how hot
the hell that they burn in will be? Finally, why must everyone on the list
be given the correction due to one of it's members not on the "straight and
narrow" ... ? I for one would prefer that such corrective actions be
administered via private e-mail, if someone believes it to be necessary.
This is the second time in fairly close succession that this sort of
reaction has occurred, and now it doesn't seem to be just the self-righteous
American scofflaws who are doing the judgement.

My apologies for posting this to the entire list ... I usually try to shine
this sort of thing on, but I really would hate to see this deteriorate into
another dozen useless messages. This is the sort of thing I'd expect to see
more in the wintertime, when everyone is going stir crazy ... why doesn't
each of us go out and have a fun little drive tonight [obeying ALL traffic
and safety laws of course!] and get out some frustration. If someone else
decides to post their thoughts about trying to set the world land speed
record out on I-5 by strapping a rocket to their NSU Prinz ... just kick
back and take pleasure in the knowledge of the process called natural
selection ...
