Timing Belt on 1992 Audi 100CS

Hi, all..
  I have an 1992 Audi 100CS(not a Quattro) and the car has almost 64,000
miles. While the book doesn't recommend to change the timing belt my
mechanic strongly recommends to do this at around 65KM. Any opinions? And
if I need to change the belt are there any things I should watch for.
  Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
