Re: Cleaning Windshields
The only thing that comes close to See-Spray (and the aerosol is 5000 times
better than the plain liquid!) - and even does a better job - is Bon-Ami.
Little known is that there is a non-abrasive, Bon-Ami powder that cleans
glass amazingly well. Do not use the regular Bon-Ami cleanser. GM used to
have the "good stuff" in their parts listing but a recent conversation on
another list says that this is no longer the case. Regardless, search it
out at your local "been there forever" hardware store that carries all the
out of the ordinary and hard to find stuff - the chain most likely won't
have it. I lost mine in my move and so I can't give you a part number from
the can. And yes, newspaper works best with this as well.
And don't forget that as soon as you've finished washing the windshield to
use your favorite Rain-X product. I've found that I get much better
results if I heat the windshield up a bit first. What I do is start the
car to warm up the engine, clean the inside and then start the defrosters
and clean the outside. Do the inside with vertical strokes and the outside
with horizontal - so you know where the streaks are. By the times you've
finished the outside glass, it should be warm enough for the HSP. I do the
all the headlight glass, windshield, rear view mirrors, both front door
windows and rear glass. In the winter, I'll do the stop and rear fog lites
so wet snow won't stick as readily.
