V8 say YEEEEEEHAAAAAAA
Man it is good to have the V8 back. Some of you may remember that the
syncro on the second gear went south and ended up needing a rebuild. Well
since there are so few 5 speeds around parts are next to impossible to come
by. Thanx to Ben Howell though, we were able to ralley up the parts we need
to fix the tranny. All new syncros, bearings, seals and gears and the
tranny is like new. While the tranny was out the brakes looked like they
needed help. So with a lot of research, which proved to be not enough
research, a Brembo/Willwood/5000 strut kit was installed into the car. DAMN
is all I can say. The brakes on that thing are 100 times better then they
were before. The thing has so much stopping power I feel like my eyeballs
will be come permanant fixtures on the windshield. Several consecutive (ABS
on and off) 125-0 MPH proves no brake fade at all. The only thing that
faded was a spot on the tires. Yeah I got a little to foot happy. One full
on stop from 145 MPH (ABS on) also proved only to leave me and my companion
with a soar sholder. The tranny shifts smooth and tight. A little to
tight. In time I think it will loosen up. The car got a new rear main, but
seems to be leaking. A small header leak and light clutch feel are the only
other annoyances. These problems will be corrected shortly. Total down
time? About 4.5 months. Why so long? AoA and parts. Do I need to say
more? Well they are not all to blame. Who knew the drive shafts from an
auto were slightly shorter then those from a manual? Then who knew it was
even harder to find manual shafts? Oh well miles of smiles are yet to come.
