Head Gasket on 5KS.
This discussion hit the list a few years ago, but I'd like to revisit it
because I think I'm going to bite the bullet and just do it. Engine runs
beautifully at 189,000+ CITY miles but the oil leaks from the valve cover
are getting a bit much. One corner is leaking and coating the
alternator, the other two spots are on the left side, little more than a
nucense. Is it viable to try and tighten the head bolts? I'm kinda
thinking not, as the genie is already out of the bottle. Since I
recently did the timing belt, I'm going to change the following:
Head Bolts, gaskets, manifold studs/bolts, lifters, fuelish injector
seals and ???. I would appreciate any additional items I should change
or at least have on hand. First time anything except fuel, air and oil
are going into this engine since Hans was in there at Inglostadt in 1984.
