Re: Shipping wheels???? UPS questions!
I ship UPS from Northern Michigan to all over the country, including CA, on
a daily basis. If you put two wheels in a box with a little padding and
ended up with about 50 pounds weight, that package would cost you under $30
CA-WI, using UPS ground service. Individually in a box would be a buck or
so a wheel more expensive. If you don't have the wheels in a box, UPS has
some strange fees, just like they charge a bunch more if you use a wood
crate or a tin container rather than a cardboard box, and the costs may be
higher, regardless of the weight. Speedier service (overnight or two-day
delivery, etc.) and additional insurance other than the $100 per package
UPS usually provides also can run the rates way up. The charges will be
higher if using one of those third-party shippers (Mail Boxes, Etc., etc.)
feeding UPS. Your cheapest UPS would be to take boxed wheels (two together
or individually boxed) to a UPS office and select ground service with no
added insurances. A residential delivery point costs a dollar more a box
than a business address.
