200TQ alternator Failure...

Last night my alternator failed.  Luckily, Audi was good enough to design the car to run for a bit without it.

A few questions:
1) How hard is it to change the alternator on a 1990 200TQ? Anything special for those not
too mechanically inclined?

2) I found a shop that will do it for $120. If I tow the car behind another about 10 miles to this shop, will
my brakes and steering work will enough to be safe without power?
