Re: who won?(Mt. Washington hillclimb)
Mark, On Saturdays run at Mt.Wash. Frank broke a pin in the
strut/control arm connection. DNF saturday. Fixed the car (had the pin
turned at a machine shop). Sundays first run produced a 94mph upper trap
speed, flying over the jump produced a flat tire near the top. That left
only one run remaining to keep his title. Second run time 6:43, 3 Sec.
slower than last year, but enough to keep the title. I would call that
a damn good showing.
Given the fact that Dan Rutan in his VW Scirroco,
with the Audi 10v turbo motor and quattro drive train, ran a 6:49. The
Rutans consistently produce backyard built hillclimbers that aren't
pretty, but the get the job done.
I think Frank was more aware of Rutans time than the Mitsu Evo's.
Sprongle 6:43.10 S-2
Dan Rutan 6:49.9 VW/Audi
Denmeade 6:56.11 Mitsu Lancer
Andy Havas 7:05.97 Honda CRX (front drive, wow!!!)
Jerry Driscoll 7:08.66 Purpose built 700 hp modified, new top speed
record 113mph!!!!!!!!
Jerremy Easson 7:12.63 Mitsu Evo 5
At the awards Jerry said to Frank, "you got all the money, but I got the
record." Frank's retort "you can keep the record. I am not that crazy."

Shawn Kemp 7:29.82 Audi 4kq
