Re: 5+5 Brake Upgrades

>>> I'm Looking at upgrading the brakes on my '81 5+5. I'm considering
using 256 mm (10.1") Vented Discs with the 100 mm Bolt pattern and new
calipers. What I would like to know is which VW's or Audi's had this sort of
setup ?

Chris-

In the USA, all 16V Scirocco 2s had vented front disk brakes, 10.1", with a
4x100mm bolt pattern. The calipers were bolt-on type (unlike the later Golfs
and Jettas that had a special strut) and were, I believe, a Girling design
very similar to the G60s we run on the 5K and later (but smaller).

This is a nice upgrade for the A1 GTi; I bolted on the 10" Scirocco 16V
front brakes onto my 1984 Rabbit GTi (along with the rear disks from the
1986 GTi). There's plenty of aftermarket brake pads and rotors of all ilk
available for these brakes. Even better, they all fit inside my 14" wheels
(BBS RA and the OEM GTI wheels) with no problems.

For sources of parts, take a peek at Neuspeed (www.neuspeed.com), Autotech
(www.autotech.com), and Rapidparts (www.rapidparts.com); all have web sites.

Bottom line: if Rabbit parts will bolt onto your strut, then 16V Scirocco
10" brakes will as well.

Of course, the next thing you're going to tell me is that your car uses
5-bolt wheels. If that is the case, then please accept my sincere "Never
Mind!"
