Re: Candian winters (was re: Ladas)
Warning: minimal Audi content
"i understand that winnipeg is even worse for the winters"
Well, we just use snowplows to clear snow on the roads here in Winnipeg, no blowers necessary. Does get pretty cold sometimes, although last winter wasn't that bad, only a few weeks where the temp was hovering around -30C. We did have a few winters where the temp didn't get above -30C for 3 weeks, most of the time it was -38C or colder.
WRT to Igor's comments on Ladas in snow, my experience with cars in general (no Lada experience) has been that with a half decent set of tires, and experience driving in snow, almost any car will be OK in up to 30 cm of snow, for short periods, and low speeds. Having lived in Vancouver for two years and witnessed how most drivers there coped with even a miniscule amount of powder, I'd be inclined to say that the driver is the most important factor in how well a car copes with snow. Before I get any flames, I'm not trying to suggest all cars cope equally well with snow, just that most will do OK if handled correctly.
Audi content: my last car was an '86 Nissan Stanza. Compared to that the Audi rides like it's on rails in the winter.
sorry for the WOB
