As has often been mentioned with regard to the Type 44 cars, the offset
is key here.
If you are going to use a 205/50 tire on a 7x15 wheel, then you want a
wheel with a 37mm offset. (Just a note here, the 15" Speedlines off of
the Coupe Quattro are perfect for this application. The Speedlines that
came on the sedans use a 45mm offset that's likely to cause you a bit of
trouble!)
And with some careful shopping, you can fit even more tire under there.
I'm currently running 215/40's on a 7.5x16 wheel on the turbo GT. The
offset is just 35mm which is exactly perfect. There are no clearance
issues on either the inside or the outside of the wheel, and I only get
some rubbing on the inner fender when I have the trunk really loaded
down (i.e. full of camping gear or the like) and I hit a really rough
patch of road.
And no, I have had the fenders rolled.
HTH!
