baking my brakes in the oven
Ok, here's one for you. I'm all set to install my big
brakes, having assembled all the necessary components (I'm using Todd Candey's
bracket's and hats). I lift the 993 calipers out of the cardboard box they
arrived in a year and a half ago, to discover that the clear coat has been badly
eaten by leaked brake fluid. (interesting, the black paint below is
OK) So I order up a can of clear VHT spray paint which arrived
yesterday. On the label it says that for a better finish, the painted item
should be cured 20 min at 250F, 30 min at 400F and 30 min at 600F.
So, my question: These temps are consistent with
what a hardworking caliper might encounter in use. Should I worry
about sticking the whole caliper, seals and all in the oven?
Worry, I mean, besides what my wife might say,
Brandon H.
