Ah, it's on teh center console.  Just ran out and looked at a 1984 4kq. 
Along the top edge of the console is a gold on black Lexan type sticker
that says "Audi 4000S quattro".

This must be what you need.

Unfortunately the handy XXXX cd does not even show the sticker I
expected to find.  And if what you need is what I saw on the 4kq it
might not be easy to remove and re-use.
