AC line repair?

	Subject: 1987 4KCSQ

	Problem: The hard AC line that wraps around the engine bay cracked
at the point where it attaches in the front by the condenser. I have an
extra piece of line that goes from that attachment point around to the brake
booster. Most places I talk to say they would have to take out the entire
line and weld the new piece on. If that were the case, I'd rather just get a
new/used line and replace it. I don't feel like trying to get under the
battery tray though. Does anyone have any experience with making flares to
join the two halves together? I'm not sure what the pressure is in the
system, but it doesn't seem like it would be impossible.
