Procedure for changing from conventional to synthetic oil?

I am changing my A4 from conventional oil to synthetic.

I have found references to potential problems with changing
over.  Specifically, synthetic oil loosening deposits left
by conventional oil, and clogging filter and/or passages.

My A4 has only 17K miles, so I figure the risk is low.  I
am planning on changing the oil/filter at 1,000, 2,000 and
then 3,000 mile intervals.  Using Bosch/OEM filters and
Castrol Syntec 5W50 oil.

Am I taking the right approach, or is there a better way?
