Air conditioning question, more

Input from members of this esteemed list finds HP draw of an a/c compressor
to be in the region of 5 HP, or thereabouts.

At 746 watts = 1 HP, that's 3,730 watts, so lets use 4KW instead. As Avi
pointed out, 4,000 watts at 13 volts is 307 amps - not practical, and
that's why I proposed to use an alternator wired to produce 110 volts -
4,000 watts is then 36 amps; still a lot, but now we are in the manageable
range. And it DOES get more complicated - the motor in the sealed
compressor wants to see 60 cycles per second, whereas the output frequency
of an unrectified alternator varies in direct lock-step with engine revs .
. . so we may wind up with a rectifier and a 5 HP DC motor - heavy! and
expensive!

The original goal was to eliminate the uneven horsepower draw of the
conventional compressor, and to eliminate rubber flex hoses and access
problems.

I need to think further about this - the cure may be worse than the disease!

There's GOTTA be a better way!
