Engine cooling fan on '87 100 + more
How do I find out if my '87 100 turbodiesel has got a fuse on the
engine cooling fan? According to the previous owner, it's a 87-model,
and I think that's correct.
Some other questions:
1. The head gasket is blown (I didn't do it). I will replace it
sometime during this week (the car is not used now). But, oil got into
coolant, and hoses, reservoirs, radiators (yes, two of them) etc. are
contaminated with engine oil. (rather, some black stuff that is almost
stuck there) What should I use to get that stuff out of the system?
Normal cooling system cleaner? (the kind you pour into the reservoir)
2. The front braks discs are somewhat badly rusted on the part that
don't get touched by the brake pads. Do I have to replace them, or is
it just normal? I used a steel brush to brush of some of the rust, and
now, it looks a lot better. But is it dangerous to use the discs?
3. How do I remove the plastic thing around the rear license plate?
It's the black one, I want to replace it with a colored one, or a
complete set of V8 lights. (in Europe, Hella makes them to match both
the cars with the button in the light and with the button on the trunk
lid)
4. The car has got a manual sunroof. (wish it was electrical)
When I want to open it fully (not only tilt), I have to push and pull
the roof and handle a bit before I hear a silent "pop" and it slides
back. What can I do to this? Not the most important thing, but if it's
easy to fix, I want to fix it..
That was all..
This car (and almost all other Nowegian-sold cars) lacks power
windows, climate control etc. It has only got power locks and mirrors.
I know I should be happy because of this, but it has been hot here
some days, and at least air conditioning would have been great to
have.. :-)
But when I want it and other electrical stuff, I can just think what
problem they would make.. :-) At least, I don't have to worry about
that, and I'm really impressed with my car. It's great, and even with
180K miles, it feels tighter both in interior and suspension than many
other, newer cars. Next projects is to put on some nice rims (14"
steel wheels are not beautiful) and a new exhaust system (old one is
one the edge to breaking into 1000 pieces, but not leaking yet). But,
the mechanical things first.. :-)
