I believe those old fridges (absorption) used water with a
high concentration of ammonia. Very environmentally
friendly. The ammonia was driven off as a vapour by heat
and the resultant increasing pressure got high enough to
cause the ammonia to condense the the condenser. After that
there is the expansion valve like in the compressor type.
The mucho hot water passed through a heat exchanger, and
both water and ammonia ended up in an absorber to complete
the cycle. Only moving part was a circulation pump.
The thing you have to remember is you're moving on down the
road in a big uninsulated fridge, and heat from the CAT just
ain't gonna keep you cool. Course I may be wrong :)
