tho my idea wont help too much in cooling, it might look "cooler"..
i am in the process of modifying/installing a '88-'91 vw vanagon chin 
spoiler/air dam, on the front of my '86 5kT.   molded into the spoiler are 2 
"air intake" holes, which would be a good place to mount a flexible hose, to 
draw cool outside air right into the airbox, or other  hot areas.  this 
spoiler will hang down alittle more than the JCW spoiler, or the one on 
Sarge's red 200TQ, scooping up more air.    gotta tell the wife to stay away 
from the parking blocks, tho.. :<)
