wheezing, sound from under plastic thing?

Howdy audi experts,

    I need help.  My car started making a wheezing, whining sound that seems
to be coming from underneath the plastic cover between the dashboard and
engine under the hood of my '84 Coupe GT (2.1L).  It seems to change pitch
depending on engine speed.  any ideas?
