Does anybody repair AC evaporators?

Does anybody repair AC evaporators?   I just had my AC evaporator replaced
by the dealer due to an internal leak. Apparently you have to gut the entire
dash and console to even get at the unit!   The damn part cost me $500 bucks
and the old one is only 4 years old.  It is off of a 1995 90 Quattro.  I was
wondering if anybody fixes and re-sells stuff like this.  I wouldn't mind
seeing if I could get a few bucks for the slightly leaky but otherwise good
core.  Also, the Recaro conversion is going well.  I have the passenger seat
in and am awaiting the front manual slide mount for the driver's side.  The
rear mounts from the Jetta brackets had to be widened 2" but my driver's
seat was power, so it did not have the manual front slide mount like the
passenger side.  I also ordered the manual air lumbar kits.  They are
absolutely incredible.  If anybody wants to improve their lumber support, I
would highly recommend these.  I got them from Seat Source for $29 each.
