I suspect it comes from miles and miles of empty miles and with the boredom
of miles and miles of driving at (or reasonably close to, anyway) a
ridiculously low speed limit with only two other cars even in sight on the
three miles of roadway in your direct clear vision.  Can you say "Boring"?
