Strut Removal- '87 5k

The best way I've found is to use a large (I use a 16") pair of
channel-lock pliers to grip the top 'nut' from the outside, under the
fender, over the wheel, through the spring (to grandma's house we
go...). If you can't see the top nut through the spring, slide the
dust cover up and then you will.

     Works for me!

How do I get the nut in the top of the strut off? The one you need
that looong special tool to get to.. Both front are stuck on my car,
and I can't pull any hard without risking to round it off.. Will
heating it up work? The shock is to be changed anyway, but I don't
want to replace anything else because of heating it up.

Any other ways to remove it? I've used a lot of WD-40/CRC 5-56 on
them, but they're totally stuck.. Sitting down there in all kinds of
dirt and salt for over 10 years (!!) probably made them almost "weld"
     to the strut..

I have to return the tool tomorrow, so I will really appreciate fast
     responses!

     Thanks,
     ES
