Joe,
    Do not under any conditions cut suspension springs if you intend to
use them!!! Suspension springs are highly stressed components with the
stress levels for the designed application very close to the materials
maximum allowable. Cutting the springs greatly increases the stress
level. It follows that the springs will probably fail (either sag or
break) at or near the limits of normal use.
