Clicking Distrib.? Changing Distrib. Cap?

    Can a distributor make a loud clicking noise when it's in trouble, or
just during normal operation?  I know the clicking noise isn't my ISV, or
Carbon Canister Selenoid.  It sounded like valves clicking, but it only
comes from the back of the engine.  That is right next to the distributor.
I say all this because I snagged an almost super brand new distrib. cap with
new leads a couple days ago.  Thinking I might install it for kicks since my
leads are old, but the rotor and cap are about a year old.  How do I go
about changing the cap on the distributor?  Never done it before.
