Huw:

Obviously this was your favorite Passat cup holder.  You need the marine or 
aviation type of cup holder that pivots and mount it on the side of your 
screen and not on the front.  That way when you turn on your wiper it will 
still clean your screen but won't interfere with your beverage of choice. 
 But I should caution you about location Huw - depending upon which side of 
the screen you mount the cup holder, you may experience some spillage on 
hard cornering unless of course you plan to upgrade your suspension.
