today's adventure:  finally go to pick up the 'new' CQ, begin quick
drive in to Boston to drop some things off before turning back for VT.
all is well.  except after leaving a toll booth around Manchester NH
under hard acceleration, suddenly battery light comes on, along with
ABS, brake, parking brake lights.  drive long enough to pull over and
discover alternator belt jumped off.  decided to go for it and try to
make Somerville.  make it only to middle of busy intersection 3 blocks
from friends house.

nothing like 100 degrees weather for trying to put alternator belts back
on with only the tiny lousy 'B' toolbox.  things are buttoned up, but
staying overnight so as to minimize chances of a repeat performance at
10pm in the middle of nowhere.  uggh.  wish me luck tomorrow...
