It may be urban legend now, but it was originally reported by the likes
of Paul Harvey in (about) 1980. The car was a relatively new SAAB 900. Town
was Chicago (where his offices were based). The guy had gone to Florida with
a girlfriend and called his wife and told her to sell the SAAB, wire him the
money, and she could have the rest. She set the selling price at $500. The
car sold to the first inquirer, who asked the "Why" question. He is the one
that wrote the letter to Paul Harvey. It was **assumed** by the letter
writer and Paul Harvey that she sent the money by wire as instructed...
