Don,
you are right! I scrutinised the road today (for those in the area -
it's the Blairmill Rd in Horsham, PA).
The road is as straight as an arrow and has one lane in ea. direction
with a double yellow between them. Each lane is maybe 5m wide, i.e. too
wide for one car, too narrow for two. Plus it recedes into a shallow
valley followed by a slight upgrade which affords a clear visibility of
about 1km. Needless to say, the traffic usually flies at about 50mph.
The road tax collectors have thoughtfully installed the 35mph limiting
sighs which I perceive as an outright racketeering.
Approximately in the centre of this stretch, in its saddle, three white
lines are painted across the road, 10-15m apart and they are _not_ a
pedestrian crossing.
Now the whole ordeal has finally came into focus. No wonder my Valentine
1 failed to pick up the stopwatch!
