MTBE (methyl-tert-butyl ether) can easily be replaced with ethanol.
Ethanol production will need to be ramped up some to allow for the
production of a huge amount of added production, though.  Ethanol also
increases octane ratings. Ethanol can be produced from a variety of
sources, one of which at least, is a renewable resource, corn.  

Now let's don't get too involved in discussing the now-renewable resources
used in producing that corn.  :-(

I'm not too thrilled with the idea of ethanol in fuel for my S6, either.
