Final Drive Oil Checking?

    I have always noticed that when I get my car back from my service place
they have always added a little final drive oil.  How does one check the
final drive oil?  How does one add final drive oil if needed?  Also how does
one drain the final drive oil to replace the oil in there with synthetic?
The original owner does not know if the final drive oil is synthetic nor do
I.  The mechanics I use put in synthetic to top it up, but have never
actually changed it.  There was a recall back when the car was new involving
all 089 transmission that called for the hypoid oil in the final drive to be
replaced with synthetic so I would think that with a warranty and a dealer
serviced car the oil was changed to synth.  I hope!
