MTBE Issues
There was a report on the CT news that we should expect at least a $0.10
increase in gas prices when the MTBE additive is mandated to be replaced.
CT prices for 93 octane are @ $1.499/gal now and have been fairly constant
for the last few months. My questions are:
1. If it is an environmental issue, has sufficient research been done on
the subject.
2. How does burning it in my car get into the ground water, or is it due to
spills.
3. A lister cites poorer mileage with MTBE, but what mileage with the new
stuff?
4. What is the environmental benefit comparison of such a proposed change
versus putting proportionate control on currently exempt vehicle like the
proliferation of SUV's?
