Lazy tach in 4KCSQ

It would seem that the tach in my 4K is getting lazy in these dog days of summer. With the car at 
a normal idle it reads about 400 rpm and only about 1800 in 4th @ 60 mph. Blipping the throttle 
only gets it slightly above 2500 revs. It used to just happen on really wet days, but is pretty 
much constant now. The upshift light comes on as low as 1200 rpm now as if this thing had a CAT 
3208 in it. Car runs fine.

Where does the tach get its signal? The coil? Anyone have any ideas whether it's the actual gauge 
or just a bad connection??
