typ44 coolant level switch in expansion tank

my coolant overflow tank in my '86 5kTQ had a crack in the little neck that 
the small upper return hose was clamped to, so i installed a used tank from a 
junkyard.  Now the coolant level light comes on, in the autocheck display. 
the level is fine, tho.
i'm assuming the switch in the replacement tank is bad.   the switch in my 
original tank i took out, was good... but i tried pulling the switch out, and 
no go..   is there a trick to removing the coolant level switch from the 
bottom of the overflow tank?
