About 15 years ago I had the same problem with my 80 Audi 5000 or some
other car.  I pulled the solenoid apart and cleaned the two contacts 
inside.  They were pretty corroded and after the cleaning I didn't have
that problem again.  You might want to try that if it is a solenoid
problem and it can be taken apart.
