Ailing 90q 20v...please help

 I am trying to fix my '91 90q 20v and I would appreciate the help from
anyone with any experience at all.

I need to replace the rear muffler and ignition
distributor (according to my trustworthy mechanic).  What are the
extras that I will need to
do this job right and who should I call for the best
prices?
 
Also, lately, the car has not been shifting into 2nd from 3rd at speed
(at least not w/out running the r's up to get it to slide in).  This is
the only gear this happens in.  Help.  TIA
