Problem is, there isn't really a "universal" 3 wire OXS.  (or is there? 
i remember getting one with butt splices once...) Anyway, you use the
cheapest one you can get and splice it on.  If the "u" one does exist,
maybe the cheesy stores just don't carry it.

Try pricing one for some common Ford or Chrysler model, see what they
look like.  My neighbors shop stocks some Chrysler unit he can sell for
$50, to make life easier for his customers...

Actually I bet the mail order people might know.  Was talking to Klaus
at Atlantic and he hadn;t wuite reached the stage of wanting to
recommend a generic OXS yet, since he felt like he wanted to be told by
Bosch or someone that they really are all the same.
